A man was hospitalized Friday night after being shot near Annandale High School in Fairfax County, Va.

A man was hospitalized Friday night after being shot near Annandale High School in Fairfax County, Va.

Fairfax County Police say the shooting took place around 9 p.m. on Suraci Court, less than a mile from the school where a high school football game was being played.

Man suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering at a nearby hospital.

Game officials have suspended the game between Annandale and Falls Church High School with less than 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter due to the shootout.

Principal Shawn DeRose said in a press release fans were told to head to their cars as others entered the school’s main gymnasium until police gave the go-ahead at 10 p.m.

“The safety of students, players and fans is our top priority,” said DeRose. “Thank you to the communities of Falls Church and Annandale for their cooperation and support. “

School officials hope to resume the game on Saturday at noon.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting. He was described as a man wearing a white shirt and checkered shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
