Cowichan Women’s Football League resumes operations – Cowichan Valley Citizen

After two years away from the pitches, the Cowichan Women’s Soccer League returned to the grounds of McAdam Park last Sunday and swept the cobwebs away to start another season.

The Crew, Ravens and Neiser Sales all picked up week one wins.

Rookie Kaili Lukan had an immediate impact with the crew, recording five touchdowns, three sacks, an interception and a convert in a 40-0 win over the Storm. Janelle Mold had a touchdown and an interception, Jess Lines had two converts, and Amanda Morton and Tara Jefferson both had an interception and a convert. The Storm got a sack from Vicky Harris and an interception from Annie Zurrer.

Defending champion Ravens rolled over the Ruckers, but the Ruckers got two sacks from Tyson Beukeboom and one from Hannah McKevitt, along with a touchdown from Jenna Bugden and a 100-yard pick from Sarah Kaljuvee.

Neiser Sales beat the Wild, who took most of the game to regain their form, but came away with a Morgan Malinski interception.

Law will make her season debut this Friday night when she faces the Ruckers, and a full slate of games are scheduled for this Sunday. Also on Sunday, the CWFL Junior League will begin play with games at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
