Former top NFL football coach and current Jackson State University Deion Sander is a man of his word.
Since Sanders agreed to coach at an HBCU, he has spoken of improving conditions as well as perceptions of sports programs at those institutions. Now, after visiting an opposing school, Mississippi Valley State, Sanders has pledged to help the rival team secure a new playing field.
Sanders asks people to help him in this mission. Mississippi Valley State is located in Itta Bena, Mississippi, on the outskirts of Greenwood, Mississippi. The football team is coached by Vincent Danya Jackson State alumnus.
In an Instagram video, Coach Prime describes some of the surprising conditions at the locker room and practice football pitch, located a mile from the school’s facilities. When he saw the pitch, he was shocked.
“I’m like, is [this] the Children of the Corn, or the training field? Sanders said.
“Wait, come back to that. Tell me this is a joke. Stop, stop, stop the damn gang. You mean to tell me this is the training ground? Alright, we have to do something about this.
Sanders continues his quest to put HBCUs on par with the country’s prestigious colleges and universities.
“I fight for ALL HBCUs, not just Jackson State. I have real love for Coach Dancy, his team and his athletes, so I’m going to do something with your help. I will come back to [yo]you REAL soon [about] how we are going to help because I want them to have a nice and GREEN new playground for their first home game. Next, we will discuss the fields of practice. If you are with me, write I am COACHPRIME covered! Thanks in advance.” @smacentertainment @conschwartz @mississippivalleystate @mississippivalleyathletics“
