Expert reveals concern over Sheffield United summer signing

Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny says he fears the Wolves will recall midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White from his loan with the Blades in January.

Gibbs-White moved to Bramall Lane on a one-season loan on the last day of the summer transfer window and has so far made a strong impression on Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.

The 21-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists in five games for Sheffield United so far, helping them regain some form after a poor start to the campaign.

Now, however, it looks like the form left Kenny concerned that Wolves could trigger January’s recall clause. they would have on loan from Gibbs-White, in order to use his talents themselves.

Giving his verdict on the time the midfielder has spent at Bramall Lane so far, Kenny told Football Insider: “He’s been doing so well lately, you just hope he doesn’t get called back.” Wolves struggle a bit, don’t they, so there’s a chance he could go back.

“They would be sorry to lose him because he really proves himself. With a little luck, fingers crossed, they can keep it all season.

“The loan is good for him too because he gets competitive playing time and gives good self-esteem week after week.”

Sheffield United are currently 13th in the league table, ahead of their trip to Vitality Stadium to face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Are these 22 Sheffield United stats right or wrong?

Sheffield United won more than 6 Premier League games last season.

The verdict

You can understand why the prospect of a Gibbs-White recall might be of concern to those with a Sheffield United persuasion.

The young midfielder has been very impressive during his time with the Blades so far, playing an important role in their return to form.

As a result, with Wolves yet to really get started this season, it might make sense for them to call Gibbs-White back in January, if they still need something to kick off their season.

Indeed, Gibbs-White has already shown he is capable of holding the Premier League, and given his Bramall Lane debut, it would be a blow to them if he were to leave prematurely.
