Practice tracks and football pitch for 2023 Pacific Games take shape

The statement said the new facility meets all international criteria for sports stadiums and will be an important symbol for the development of sport in the country.

Training tracks and a football pitch built for the 2023 Pacific Games are taking shape.

Construction is nearing completion with the recent installation of running tracks, and with only minor patchwork remaining for the football pitch, the facility will soon see athletes and footballers hone their skills in preparation for the 2023 Pacific Games.

A statement from the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium project team indicates that the concerted efforts of contractor CCECC and project management firm CSADI will ensure that the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium project facilities will soon be handed over to the government and people of the Solomon Islands.

Funded by China, the newly built facility is located in the KG School and will be one of the first facilities to be completed in preparation for the 2023 Pacific Games.

The statement said the new facility meets all international criteria for sports stadiums and will be an important symbol for the development of sport in the country.

The 2023 Pacific Games will be held in Honiara, from November 19 to December 2, 2023. This will be the first time Solomon Islands will host the Games. The event was originally scheduled for July 16-29, 2023.

The government recently said it was confident it could stage the 2023 Pacific Games on time, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
