Slavisa Jokanovic makes claim over recent events at Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic said Yorkshire Live that he feels his team needs to improve both offensively and defensively once they return from the international break.

The Blades currently sit 14th in the Sky Bet Championship standings and have just three wins under their belt in their first 11 games, which underlines the need for a lot to improve at Bramall Lane.

Jokanovic is still trying to figure out which team is his best, with the absence of a consistent starting XI having clearly had a lasting effect on the team since taking the job this summer.

Speaking recently about his squad, the former Fulham and Watford boss was quick to point out where they needed to improve over the next few months:

“The team have confidence that we are in the right direction, they want to play this game and they think it is good for us and they are confident that we will benefit from it.

“For me, it’s not enough, it’s simple, but I was encouraged for what lies ahead. We have to improve defensively and offensively.

The Blades didn’t win until the last international break and have only scored one goal in that span, so it’s important that there is a big reaction once they come back after the next one.

The verdict

Overall, most of those linked to the club will have been disappointed with their start to the season, as the squad have yet to reach the heights expected of them.

They’re starting to figure out what their initial training will be over the next few months and that consistency should help them more in the long run.

It was always going to take a while for the players to adjust to Jokanovic’s methods, but he needs to see a big reaction this time around after the international break.

They certainly have the quality in their ranks to fight for promotion, but as the manager says, they just need to improve on both ends of the pitch.
