Drew Nickel’s overcame several injuries in order to continue playing for the Blue Hens.

An Upper Black Eddy blue hen returns to the field after recovering from serious injury. Kevin Tresolini of the Delaware News Journal wrote about the Bucks County native in the Bucks County Mail Schedules.

Palisades High School graduate Drew Nickles currently plays as a linebacker for the University of Delaware Blue Hens football team. After joining the team in 2019, he had two consecutive seasons where injuries affected his game. Now he has recovered and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

“I feel good,” Nickles said. “…I just need to remove some rust.”

Issues with his left and right shoulders and a pulled hamstring put a damper on his early seasons with Delaware’s college football team. However, his recovery proved successful and the linebacker is now pursuing his football career.

A college business graduate in Newark, Delaware, Nickles is one of many Blue Hens to return to the field after injuries this season. The Bucks County native’s comeback story mirrors that of Markus Barnett, who returned to the field to play for Neshaminy High School following his own injuries.
